Love’s fresh sting

You smiled and laughed,
And laughed, and smiled,
“Lets play another”,
“Just one more”,
But apparently, not quite enough.
As in the rain (The pathetic rain),
You inflicted upon me love’s fresh sting,
No love yet, but still the pain
Of disappointed dreams
And futile hopes,
As thoughts of us brought crashing
down,
And excitement, that like a foal had leapt,
And for weeks, grown strong, was
Extinguished,
with the crack of a gun.
But not an act of evil, or greed,
Just the other side of the coin,
The partner in the eternal dance of love,
That mercy which seems so cruel,
But allows for love to blossom
Where it truly belongs,
Where foals frolic in both hearts,
And dance and play together
Through the rain,
Yet still it hurts,
And today my heart cries,
But tomorrow, once again, my heart will sing.
