Adrift in Your Indifference

I trace the cracks within myself,
yet find none upon you—
Your skin, a barren canvas,
untouched by time or flaw,
While mine, a weathered map,
etched by stares that linger too long.

You label yourself two-faced,
but I only set eyes on one
side of the wall.

If winter’s piercing bitterness
encircled us
I would bare you my warmth
and shiver abreast of you
while you stand unshaken, untouched.
I see you wouldn’t do the same—
and yet, here I remain,
bound as if by chains
to this far-fetched longing.

From afar, I watch you,
the tides between us surge and break—
saltwater aflame my gaping wounds.

You’d never choose me
from the glittering schools of fish,
but still, I swim—wading through waters
that churn with your indifference.
Forever adrift,
forever chasing you.
