She cared for us with love in her heart
Even at times when we were apart
She was always there when we came home
No matter how far we tended to roam.
When we were younger she tried her best
With our Dad out of work it was really a test
She sewed and made us clothes galore
Out of hand-me-downs, as there were four.
Our Dad would work at anything that came
And they taught us never to feel any shame
For the depression left us all at a loss
Not just the workman, but even the boss.
We never went hungry for we surely know
She would always make a big healthy steer
And porridge each morn was a definite thing
As she stirred the pot, she at times would sing.
She made sure we grew up healthy and well
And to her we sometimes never did tell
How much we loved her for all she did
And to thank her for the life we now live.
