My Roof

Twenty three lines
That's how much the cracks on my roof branch
Two flies and three spiders
The number of nocturnal visitors I have seen
Gray is an interesting color
Or so the cobwebs on my roof make me think

Leaves are terrifying in the dark
When their shadow is projected in the night
They sway and make dancing dragons
On the white canvas that is above me
For that's the use of my roof

Birds move a lot on iron sheet roofings
Raindrops make quite a din in the silence
Lightning doesn't like metal
And bats like to look at me in the eye
But I will never be alone
For in the dark of the night
When sleep I can no longer have
My roof is the one I see
