Messengers

I will listen to what others have to say.
There are messages in their voices
That can help me with my day
And aid me in making right choices.

I can fuel my inner flame
With wisdom from ages past.
Those sages of long ago
Have truths that will forever last.

Oil lamps of old gave subtle light
Until Benjamin Franklin with his kite
Came along in a storm
And gave incite.

Before that, man carried his light
In a candle his wick burned low
For many years and the shadows
On the wall enhanced his fears
Until the dark halls of night
Were lighted with Edison's majestic
Incandescent light.
