Her innocence caught my attention...
I held out my sturdy hand...
She grabbed it just so lightly...
We laid down together in the sand...
We gazed into each other’s eyes...
For what seemed like quite a while...
I professed my feelings for her...
She offered a demure smile...
She made me feel totally complete...
Like I had never felt before...
She warned that I might ruin it...
If I tried to love her too much more...
I misjudged her quiet innocence...
As a weakness that needed strength...
She said we needed distance...
For us to ever go the full length...
I totally mistook her insecurities...
As a damsel in helpless distress...
She could do just fine without me...
As she cut me off to her access...
She warned me to slow down...
Said I was going way too fast...
We were on two different pages...
But I just wanted it all to last...
It was one of life’s tough lessons...
I was forced to learn the hard way...
But I’ll always remember that damsel...
And the games she loved to play...
