Friends

'Twas on my way home, driving down an old familiar road,
when my thoughts began to roam,
Remembering my broken home, recalling friends that had
come and gone, But one friend weighs heavily on my mind,
for she was one of a kind, Reflecting on the past years, of all our ups and downs
snaring each other's tears,
taking away each other's frowns,
revealing our fears, telling each other our secrets
sharing our hopes and dreams for the future,
to each other we could bare our soul. But growing up took its toll,
we each went our separate ways
promising to return someday,
I went chasing life, and you stayed and
became a soldier's wife. Days turned into months, and months into years,
and promises were broken, and words went unspoken;
and a friendship disappeared.
