Dancing in the Rain

As children we splashed around in puddles
And look for rainbows when the sky cleared.
Loving life and the simplicities of what made us happy.
Completely ignorant of the struggles of the world.

As we grew older, we grew bolder.
Instead of waiting for the rain to stop.
We’d simply run out the door as quickly as we could,
Smiling and holding each other’s hand.

We’d laugh and play and dance.
Oh, how we loved to dance.
When the sky poured down on us,
All our problems washed away.

Somedays we’d just lay in the rain,
Reminiscing the simpler times, happier times
Then we’d giggle and laugh
And dance through the pain.

My memories of you shatter,
And I’m left alone to wonder why.
Why you felt you had to take on the world alone.
Why you thought you had to do it on your own.

Tonight, I’m laying in the pouring rain,
Mourning, while memories of you
Flood my brain, and I do the only thing,
I can think to do.
And dance in the rain.
