Thank you God for these precious years
you gave my life to extend;
Especially those past memories
of gone years to apprehend.
My mother gentle, kind and good
to God's creatures great and small.
And her endless love for mankind
regardless of race and all.
She was the one who took my hand
that first scary day of school;
And also sure I got braces --
tho, more skimping -- be a rule;
And, recalling her light, firm hand
soothing my hot aching brow --
Then, by my bed, she'd humbly kneel
asking God, "please heal me now!"
She gave hope and encouragement
when my days were dark and dreary,
Thank you God, for these memories --
that each year becomes more dear!
