she races on rollerblades
by herself when daylight fades
alone but she’s not lonely
“i’ve got the stars beside me”
they are both one thumb apart
and separated by galaxies
can be covered by our palms
blinding ourselves but not conceal it
each has their own world
a story to tell
shaped by unique moulds
she has one as well
she tumbles, falls on her back and trips
gets back up again, tumbles then slips
she takes the risk of crashing down
if it meant learning to fly on solid ground
her parents warned, “don’t be bold and brave,
always grab the rails to be sure”
she tells them, “a ship at shore is safe,
but that’s not what the ship was made for”
she snatches the magnifying glass
study the bugs on grass inch by inch
her friends sleep on notes, memorise fast
gone after the test without a hitch
future plans driven by wealth
graduated with an A
put the books back on the shelf
9 to 5 they slave away
forget what their younger self
dreamed of being one day
traded curiosity for some praise
was a price that high truly worth its cost?
guess we should’ve followed that cliche phrase
it’s always best to think outside the box
creations that never ceased to amaze
in midst of chasing labels, we have lost
where people fight to survive
she seeks a life, the chances to thrive
sometimes when faced with a dump
only way out is prepare to jump
when she falls, she falls forward
standing on her own two feet, she grew
scar marks, she calls them rewards
forget her running toward, she flew
how to grasp sprinting or trekking
when taking a step, one’s too afraid?
“easy” starts a path of suffering
“painful” honours the self-made
in a world where everyone’s walking
she races on rollerblades
