Christmas As It Was

Christmas used to be a wondrous time,
never would you hear of a crime.
Doors were left open, for all to come in.
Those who were fat helped those who were thin.
Carol singers were welcome at your door,
The money they collected went to the poor.
You'd hang up your stocking knowing you'd not be left out,
You'd wake up in the morning, with a whoop and shout.
Snow on your window ledge would listen,
And your parents would listen
To what Santa had delivered last night.
In wonderment with eyes so bright,
The innocent child enjoyed the day,
And so did we, to watch him play.
Later a steaming turkey, served with love,
And a prayer of thanks, to the Lord above.
party games were played by everyone
Now those Christmas seem to have gone.
