The word “inspiration” indicates the original idea of the reason for this phenomenon - it was assumed that an extraneous “spirit” enters a person and more or less completely takes possession of his mental abilities, elevating and strengthening them. The quality of this extraneous spiritual force entering or affecting the consciousness determines the difference between positive inspiration (“influx from above”) and obsession or demon possession. At the same time, inspiration is not a force external to consciousness. This is the awakening of his own resources. Inspiration is accompanied by the highest tension of all the spiritual and physical forces of the being, emotional uplift, clarity of thought, concentration of inner attention, brightness and special power of imagination
Inspiration is a special excitement of consciousness in which it begins to work differently than usual, not moving from thesis to antithesis, but moving from synthesis to synthesis. In this, inspiration is close to intuition, but if intuition relates to cognition, then inspiration relates to activity. Plato also looked at inspiration as an internal effect that accompanies the elevation of the soul into the sphere of contemplation of the truly existing or eternal ideas - the synthetic foundations of the universe
In each ritual it is necessary to distinguish between “technically” necessary things and things that give inspiration: the first are universally obligatory, the second are individual. For example, to summon a Servant Spirit, three things are strictly necessary: a Magic Circle, a Sigil, and a Spirit Triangle. Everything else - clothes, incense, etc. To a greater extent, it serves precisely the acquisition of inspiration. Likewise, poetic spells have an advantage over prosaic ones precisely in their ability to transfer consciousness into an active state of inspiration
Thus, the art of achieving a state of magical inspiration, water, is one of the most important areas of training for a magician, and quite undeservedly often falls out of the attention of practitioners
