It's our turn now
To hold their hand
As they cross the street
To look for the car
That may hit and run
We had a good time
Every moment every morning
They would take turns
To drop me off to school.
Dancing classes , visits to the zoo
Waiting at the doorway
With hugs and candy
Off to the house scampering. happily
There is always a child amongst us
Without a word or warning
The roles reversed
Now I bend down
To tie their shoes
Drive thru town with snacks and drinks
Early morning clinic appointments
Or banks and pension offices
They always hug me smile with glee
Tears in my eyes
I enjoy these moments that make
Me me
There is a child in them
That needs patience and care
That I love to see
