The Bottom Line

The "Bottom Line" just makes me sick
The CEO's do too
Their ethics are replaced by greed
What are we all to do
Their companies pollute our air
We cough to catch our breath
While profits puff out poison smoke
The air we breathe means death
Our streams are filled with toxic waste
While cash flows through their veins
The fish all die - the wild life too
But business profit gains
A profit surely must be made
That's private enterprise
But save the planet - just take less
A worthy compromise
Take a margin of the profits
Invest to educate
For knowledge just might save the day
If we give greed the gate
Let's talk about the children here
And how they're entertained
They're plied with sex and violence
So what - the cash flow gained
We know about the finer things
Why not give those a try
Think about fine art and such
And set their sights on high
Both the doctors and the lawyers
Can't really be exempt
We trust them as they rip us off
They're sickly in contempt
Dismantle our democracy
Demoralize our folk
This seems to be the means to end
How are we all to cope
Dare we hope in our sweet life
The laws could be so strong
And justice in our system meant
That drugs and guns are wrong
We've got to try to save the earth
And yes - preserve the sun
It's not too late to make amends
With God's - "Thy Will Be Done"
The wake up call is here for us
It's time to tow the line
The life we save might be our own
Rethink the "Bottom Line"
