Closing Time (aft. L. Cohen)

I drink my whiskey alone tonight
In my favorite bar
Wondering if anyone would join me
From the crowd of youth celebrating
Their age of stupidity
But no one has
It's after midnight the crowd is still going
When I cut out
And walking down the loneliest road in town
I turn around the corner and see
A young couple kissing in the light of the lamppost
I think to myself why can't it be me?
But no one wants to be with a poet without experience
So, I waltz on by
And curiously questioning whom will break up with whom
As the first light of the sun blinds myself into oblivion
I see clearly into the future
