Alone

I started once to walk on by,
But she smiled and said hello.
Her eyes looked wistfully at me,
And she asked me not to go.
I stayed to talk with her awhile.
She was lonely I could see.
She made me feel so welcomed
As she talked of things to be.
Of when her children would return,
Or call her on the phone.
Such dreams help fill the lonely hours
As she sits there all alone.
They all live busy, happy lives.
Their children fill their days.
It seems they have forgotten her,
And all the love she gave.
Just think about it for awhile
Tonight when you get home.
Is that your Mother sitting there
Forgotten and alone?
If so get in touch with her.
It would make her world so right.
To know you love and care for her
Would fill her with delight.
Life is such a fleeting thing,
To soon it passed by,
And maybe at some future date
That chair you'll occupy.
Will your heart be sad and lonely,
Like the ladies that I know?
It brings to mind those awesome words,
We reap what ere we sow.
