Seasons

The season changed when I looked at you.
Cold stares and snowfall,
Bitter hearts driving frozen roads.
We saw the sun come down from your driveway,
Watched our shadows slowly grow.

Calendars marked.
Life breathed back into the air,
The silent warmth of daylight returned.
The season changed when we checked the clock.
The streams flowed over,
Ground still melting,
Seeds sown past remain ever-growing.

The season changed when I called you,
And called you,
And called you.
Days spent sweating out patience,
Nights of constant suspect.
I saw the way he looked at you,
It’s the same way you looked at me.

I heard the leaves fall when we kissed,
And waves crash when we would touch.
The season changed when I held you by the ocean,
And knew you’d finally had enough.
