Red Dawn In Nam

I hear them say that I am going home,
But a terrible price I've paid.
Out of the ether, disembodied and discontent,
No doubt what I have become:
I look down dead leaves and dead grass:
I am aghast!
Blood drops like sapphires from the body next to mine:
leaving trail--
Eternity drips away inch by inch inside me--
If I could slide into deep sleep,
I could see God and ask him why!
There is an end to things--but no here:
Not yet.
A cross on the back is like a sword in the heart--
My body has no history except for it's scars,
I am emptied, ready to go,
Again
