the fair den o' alyth

plant me somewhere nice,
somewhere up the fair den o’ alyth
next to a pine tree or hanging willow
just plant me somewhere nice!

i’ll absorb and swallow
through my eyes and mouth
i’ll spring out soil -
pleading out my hands
touching the sky.

gift me rain and sit next to me
as I drink the clouds,
I’ll listen to the great spotted woodpeckers
as they crash and drum
the kingfishers will swoop and dunk,
catching their tea

I will grow –
great and copious
the forest at my feet
woodpeckers will hammer me
kingfishers will rest on me
as I reach and stretch and offer and die.
