Here I sit
With my best friend
From the very beginning
Until the end
We were born the same year
And we lived next door
It’s a wonderful story
Would you like to hear more
We learned to crawl together
And started walking at the same time
We had matching tricycles
And up trees, we would climb
We celebrated holidays together
And we shared all our toys
We went to school together
And liked the same silly boys
She was the pitcher
On the girls softball team
And I was the catcher
We were a coach’s dream
We both joined the swim team
At the town’s high school
And were camp counselors
At the local swimming pool
I have to admit
We were both pretty cute
All the boys would whistle
When we wore a bathing suit
When our parents allowed us
We would always double date
We would wear each other’s clothes
And approve each other’s mate
We decided we would wait
Until we got married to kiss
When the boys got impatient
We would give them the hiss
We went with each other
To our high school prom
We were too young to drive
So we got a ride from her mom
Our parents were happy
That we behaved ourselves
What they didn't realize
We were frisky little elves
After high school graduation
We asked our parents for a loan
We opened a bookstore together
We got a place of our own
We came to an agreement
That men weren't necessary in life
Who wants to pick up after a slob
Why would anyone want to be a wife
We would be best friends forever
What more did we need
We trusted no one but each other
We were best friends, indeed
So, about the whole situation
What more can we say
We live a wonderful life
And we’re delighted this way
