I went into the woods today
To walk a path of memories
Silently I prayed give me this day
I saw a carpet of autumn leaves
made bright with a sunlight ray
It was lonely quiet in these woods
I heard a blackbird cry
So still the pine cones lay, fallen
On needles left to dry
I reached out to touch a rustic carving
To feel the weathered grooves of bark
A promise left unbroken
"I love you", encircled in a heart.
A dream of childhood, a call of love
A misting in the rain
I call into the woods a name of yesterday
Only an echo remain.
