We do not pray for immortality I think, but only not to see our acts and all things stripped suddenly of all their meaning; for then it is that utter emptiness of everything reveals itself.
Where and Why and When We are born innocent. We suffer terrible disillusionment before we can gain knowledge, and then we fear death, and we are granted only fragmentary happiness to offset the pain.
