Empty Promises

I love this country I grew up in
My thoughts are very strong
If we're not entitled to inhibit it
Where did we go wrong
It must have been the fork in the road
We took the wrong track,
After traveling so far with uncertainty
We finally had to turn back
Upon return I was surprised to find
For compition we were to late
For life's treasures and well being
There's nothing that will compensate
Give me here, give me there
Don't worry I've got mine
As the world goes by, in the twinkling of an eye
You have been left behind
We ruined the land with pesticides
We cut down all the trees
Now there's nothing left to pass on
But empty promises
