neon lights, swaying bright
in my vision, blurred
i had one too many shots
might be bullets, might be drinks
these days i’m never sure of
anything at all
bubbly hysterics swimming
in the raucous noise of the city
this dark corner of the street
holds all of me on its tarmac, gritty
and brittle, and decaying sweet
the streetlight glows and flickers
with the shattered souls that stood
on this very spot
through days and days
today, tomorrow, yesterday
forever and evermore
pain has no date of expiry
and earth goes around the sun
round and round and-
head underwater, in the clouds
stumbling, bumbling like a fool
laughs and tears merge like the crowds
mumbling, crumbling in plain sight
the streetlight glows and flickers
with every unsteady breath of
its unfortunate patrons
not a drop of tears are wasted
not a tinge of smoke squandered
never a kick unfavoured
nor a silhouette unbothered
guess i’m another one
fallen in the night
dead meat and dead beat
today i’ll let the streetlight
wine and dine
