Prelude.

Who spreads the banquet
Has a royal heart,
And friends on friends
His praises love to tell.
Then if those things
Such regal joys impart
Why not the luxuries
Of lore as well?
I've whiled away
Some scanty hours of ease
In picturing man
So frail and hard to please, -
Now, if perchance
Some feel too much abused,
I cannot kneel,
But beg to be excused.
