Charlie was born in February on a winter’s day to his mom Kiki Niki a Chi and his dad Scooter II a Chihuahua. His mother had scruffy fluffy hair and she was blonde with a curled-up tail.
His daddy dog was brown with a curled-up tail like his wife Kiki. They were small dogs and very fit they because they exercised a lot chasing cats and each weighed about 6 pounds. Scooter liked to sit on his owner’s lap, but Kiki liked lots of noise, hopped and barked all the time. She acted like she was 50 lbs. though and yapped and yapped, in her high voice.
They were the Ruff Ruff Family, they lived on 113 Puppy Lane, Bow Wow Street in Dogville with 4 puppies of their very own.
Charlie was small and he had 2 brothers and a sister, and they were all brown like the daddy dog, but Charlie, looked different from all of them. He had long hair like mama dog, but hers was pretty and wavy and his was wispy like a horse’s tail and looked like the wind just blew through it. And a gray stripe down his back. But his colors were not like Kiki’s or Scooters.
He didn’t really look like his mama or daddy dog.
He was grayish-brown with tan markings on his face over his eyebrows, on his chest and his legs had tan on them like socks.
The puppies got bigger and nosier, some got lighter and others darker, but Charlie's colors never changed, and his hair got scruffier and fluffier. Little whiskers sprouted out from the sides of his nose, on his chin, mouth and he had eyes like little twinkling shiny stars.
His brothers and sister teased him calling him names like Fliffy Fluffy and Scruffy Nuffy. It sure made Charlie mad and hurt his feelings but what could he do? He didn’t look like them and he was funny colored. So, he didn’t play with them at all and stayed is his dog room.
When it was time for them to go to their new forever homes his brothers and teased him something awful. No one will ever pick you, you have funny hair, that sticks out everywhere and mixed up colors. Yah, yah, yah and they took off running.
Charlie was very sad and felt ugly. Why am I different he wondered why couldn’t I just look like my brothers and sister?
Mama dog Kiki and Daddy Dog Scooter noticed he was sad and knew why so when the day they said 'Charlie let’s talk, we want to show you so pictures of the Ruff Ruff family.'
They pulled out a bag from under the bed in the doghouse and said, ‘here is a picture of your parents’ families.’ Grandpa Chewbone, Grandpa Lick a lot and Grandma dogs, Lula belle big ears and Nettie short legs who were brown like his brothers and sisters. Charlie's eyes got watery and he said, ‘they look like the rest of you, not me. Mama dog said, ‘look, closer Charlie, Grandpa Chew bone has fluffy, scruffy, curly hair, tan socks on his legs, and wiggly whiskers too exactly like you. Charlie wiped away the tears and his eyes got big.
Grandpa Chewbone was a brave dog. He once saved your daddy dog from being scratched by the Big Siamese cat next door, that devil was whipping its tail around looking for a fight but here comes Grandpa Chew bone and let me tell you he gave that cat a talking too. along with a nip on his tail, chased him away and that cat never came back again.
Grandpa Lick a lot was a courageous military dog in the Little Dog Walk Patrol and oversaw chasing away possums, squirrels, and other varmints. And look at that Charlie he has a grey streak down his back.
Now Charlie knew where he came from and why he had three colors. His mama dogs said you look like all of us Charlie you should be very proud.
Charlie was very happy at last. He knew where he came from and why he had three colors and told his brothers and sisters all about it, but they laughed anyway and called him Silly Billy Whisker Willy.
Well, the big day arrived, for the pups to find their new homes and the people came to visit to pick a puppy for their very own. The first people were a mom, dad, and their little girl Sadie.
Charlie's brothers and sister licked the people and danced around showing off like hopping frogs that had ants in their pants, but Charlie stayed quiet in the corner. The little girl saw him reached out and patted his head. That felt nice and he liked it, so Charlie nudged her hand, smiled and wiggled his whiskers. The little girl picked up him and he could see that she had scruffy fluffy curly hair too.
Charlie liked her already and licked her right on the nose. She giggled and held him close to her.
She told her parents I like this one look at his colors, he is so cute, and his whiskers tickle my nose. She laughed and her parents laughed too they could see she loved the little pup. Charlie's parents were happy that he had found such a good house and knew the little girl take care of him. His brothers and sister could not believe it. The very first one picked, and they thought he was ugly, we were sure we would be picked first they cried, waaaaaaaaaaa and off they went whining and howling to their parents.
Charlie loved them though in spite of all their teasing. He said goodbye and wished them all a happy home as he had gotten, they waved so long and off Charlie went with the little girl to live at his new address of Pepperoni Drive just past Big Dog Circle.
His new home was just a few miles down the road, so Charlie lived close to his family and played with them often at the Bow Wow Dog park.
