I have struggled my entire life
to bring unity to our twin islands
nation and is known for my
bravery to fight the lion alone
and not feel sorry for myself
with humility, I have walked
the talked by listening to
the working -class people
to fight for their rights
in the sugar estates so
that they can keep their
culture awake

I grew up in the estate
plowing the land and planting
sugarcane before giving the
opportunity to go to England
and to become a certified
in law

I entered politics when
I saw that there was a need
for representation from the people
to speak on their behalf
It was only when I used the symbol
\of the chain to represent a
democratic party that the people
decided to give me a chance
with every breath of mine
I challenge the state fearlessly
for every righteous cause
and to maintain discipline
and respect for the people
by offering my service as a
sacrifice to humanity

I became a powerful force
with which to reckon with
by bringing all the parties together
to vote the ruling party out
of office
I was successful and inspired
to strengthen our two islands
to lead at at time when the price
of oil was very low yet
I managed to steer the boat
on course and kept the
nation flag flying high
amidst the storms of difficulties
I was able to build a new airport
one of the most modern
throughout the Caribbean
and make life comfortable
for every citizen

It didn't happen overnight
to a small nation that was
rule by colonialism
as an independent nation
I took the mantle of leadership
to ensure that every child
have a fair chance to get an education
by introducing a dollar for dollar
program so that they can enter
university and to obtain a degree
while in office I came to
recognise the Shouter Baptiste
religion by giving them a
public holiday
and that every other religion
continue to recognize that
the power of truth is a light
that will lead us out of poverty

I have tried and tried again
to call for a government
of national unity so that our
two main cultures will not be
divided and that future leaders
will understand that in order
for any nation to be successful
it must listen to the voices from within
where the hard -working people
toil tirelessly for a daily bread
be given a chance to rise
above all obstacles


every day the world is changing
and to have a clear vision of foresight
I will like to see that one day
my dream will come to pass
so that disunity must not exist
but totally go out of sight
and the minds of our little
children will blossom with time
that they will grow up to
become men and women of tomorrow
who will walk without fear
to seek the interest of this
country that is rich in
oil and gas where Mother Nature
has blessed us with
that gift of grace

I have done my duty and served
well to the best of my knowledge
and ability that in future someone
may well desire to walk in my shoe
and know how it pains to be a leader
who will not run from any challenge
but will continue to build and
to listen to voice of the people
which I believe is the voice of God
