Take Care Of The Rabbits Dedicated To Dr. Walker

He longed to become a doctor to heal people
To set them free from their suffering and pain
For years he studied. It was all he had time for
In return, prestigious titles were placed behind his name

When he could not heal his patients or they died
When their families begged him to make them well
The doctor's heart was broken with remorse
And there was no one to share with. No one he would tell

Not knowing how he could continue the game
Weary and confused he lay down to rest
He had done everything he had been taught how to do
Though not good enough, he had given his best

He dreamed he was in a different place
The place he was really meant to be
Rabbits nibbled at his fingers, expecting food
All in cages, and in his hand he held their key

With simple food, water and a kind word he cared for them
He sang as he performed his chores and cleaned out each cage
It was healing for him to simply care for the rabbits
He felt no shame, no guilt or rage

Words formed in his mind:

You were never meant to perform miracles
A mere man cannot save a man who is dead
Or make someone destined to suffer whole
Just care for my rabbits and follow where you are led

He still cares for his patients with kindness and compassion
Always he gives the best he is able to give
But he recognizes he is only a man , not God
He cares for the rabbits, is happy and finally learning to live.
