Gentle Rebuke

Still I deny the laughter in the trees
mixed with the leaves
the ill-forgotten breeze
essence of nature
murmur into daybreak
flame away the darkness of night
I escape
ripple through the pulsing lake
the rock of self-pity I take
thrown carelessly forth
submerging beneath the faint shallowness
would I forget the soft song
and whispers in the rain
Nature speaks and I listen.
