Matter Of Time

The hours pass by and I am left wondering why.
I sit alone on my bed, thinking of all the things that were said.
My parents are arguing in the background, all I want to do is drown out the sound.
I listen to music for hours on end, hoping to find an answer in them.
Each time I hear my father yell, I want to cover my ears and be somewhere else.
Each time I hear my mother cry, I get really sad inside.
My heart aches to the core, pretty soon my Daddy will come through my door.
Ending his anger and rage, spilling it out all on me.
Bruises cover my body, they hurt to touch.
I go to school, afraid to talk.
I go back home, and it's the same all over again.
Me a helpless girl, caught in a mess that I can't control.
My heart can't be healed and I will pay with my soul.
One more night, Daddy's angry again.
He hits me hard, I fall to the floor.
He hits me again over and over, until I can't move anymore.
He finally takes one more blow, and I feel myself slipping away.
I take one last breath, and my heart stops.
He looks down at me and realizes what has happened.
He falls to the floor and begins to sob.
He's ashamed, he's sorry, but he can't undo what he has done.
Mother is terrified and doesn't know what to do, so he grabs a gun and kills her too.
He hates himself now, and doesn't know if he can go on living his life with this regret.
So he points the gun at himself and pulls the trigger, all everyone hears is a bang, his lifeless body falls with a light thud and blood stains the floor.
Three lives were taken, two lives were innocent and one life was full of pain and anger that couldn't deal with it anymore.
