Morning dawns bright and clear
I sit, coffee cup in hand
Wondering what this day will bring.
I could clean house, there's little need
Instead of books and toys
A stray sock or two
The rooms stand undisturbed
Perhaps I'll tend my garden
Plucking the stray weed that dares
Invade those perfect beds
Where once the flowers crumpled
'Neath children's heedless feet.
Quiet enfolds me and I sigh,
A pang of longing stabs my heart
Years have flown in unappreciated joy
Now I sit here - remembering.
