To A Rose
LIKE THIS POEM
O rose! forbear to flaunt yourself,
All bloom and dew-
I once, sad-hearted as I am,
Was young as you.
But, one by one, the petals fell
Earthward to rot;
Only a berry testifies
A rose forgot.
