1) In far a city, Far-Away
There, once, there lived Mohamay
2) Since he was born, brilliant was he
And persevering as much can be
3) His mother, his father him considered
A hope, a blessing. For him they prayed
4) Therefore, in him, he did beli’ve
Decided to work as long he live
5) He worked and, he worked hard
And sure he was of the reward
6) Although he worked more and more
His work he never got paid for
7) He worked’n thought it all what matters
Naively ignored what “really matters”
8) In real, rewards in Far-Away
They were controlled by Mick and May
9) For Mick, rewards go to who pays
For May, they go to whom she knows
10) But poor Mohamay didn’t know
And kept the struggle then and now
11) Until one day, was a contest
That, apparently, it was honest
12) Few chosen ones were to be given
A fine reward for their work even
13) And then Mohamay was sure, was certain
That full success he gonna obta’n
14) But, sad enough, he didn’t get
A single thing he aimed at
15) Another contest, a second, a third
A fourth, a fifth, but no reward
16) Plenty of doubts he started see
“Is it Myself, or I, or Me?”
17) “Is it because I didn’t work
Sufficiently for things to work?”
18) “But my whole life I have been working
And myself vowed never to quitting”
19) “Then what is that? What I see happen?”
“Then what is that? Damned be Satan!”
20) “Is it a fact that others be,
How hard I try, better than me?”
21) “Is it the end? My parents’ dream?
My aspirations? My self-esteem?”
22) Outrageous rage he entered in
His heart he felt deep pain within
23) He sat, his head between his arms
Seeking relief from all these harms
24) Trying to wash his shame with tears
Angry and warm, drowning his ears
25) An old man, then, was passing by
And got attracted by Moha’s sigh
26) He went towards the sad youn’ man
And asked him what was wrong then
27) Moha replied telling his story
How much he suffered, how much he worry
28) The elder’s voice full of compassion
“It’s not your fault. Fight this obsession”
29) “Open your eyes. Open your heart
To you my wisdom I will impart”
30) “The real world is not as seem
There is a lot we wrongly deem”
31) “If you look closer with open heart
You’ll understand some things apart”
32) “In every place in Far-Away
There is a place for Mick and May”
33) “For May, what matters are those she knows
For Mick, it’s rather who better pays”
34) “Which makes the rewards’ destiny
In part depend on Mick and M’y”
35) Moha, with rage, convulsed and yelled:
“This is why, then, I’m never paid.”
36) “This is what was behind my failure.
This was the cause, not my poor valure”
37) “This, after all, is what us ail.
This why we are in nations’ tail”
38) Calm and serene, the man replied:
“This doesn’t mean your dreams’ve flied”
39) “It is correct; full of corruption
Is here and there in our nation.”
40) “But still you have to keep the work
And by God’s will things are to work”
41) “Stop your weeping! Get you together!
It’s real life. It’s no Theatre.”
42) “Get you together and leave the sorrow.
Prepare yourself to live tomorrow.”
43) “Never give up on your dreams! No!
Keep the hard work, and always know”
44) “God is Almighty; God is all knowing;
God is the Just; God is bestowing.”
45) “All your good work God never will
Let go in vain. And by God’s will,
46) “For all your efforts, you will be paid,
Whatever said; whatever made”
47) “No Mick, no May in the way get
If something written for you to get.”
48) “And to be happy in this low world,
I will advise you. Listen my word”
49) “Do what is needed to reach your goals,
And do not listen to the road’s owls”
50) “Bear in your mind that all was written
Before your life to you was given”
51) “Before the Moon; before the Sun;
Before the Earth and the stars even.”
52) “Therefore, be happy with what you have
Don’t get intrigued with others’ ‘have’.”
53) “And keep the struggle; yourself improve
That you are worthy to you to prove.”
54) “And God almighty will never waste
The work of those to the good haste.”
55) Dear fellow readers, this was a story
That wasn’t meant to make you sorry,
56) A truthful child of a poet’s mind
That was delivered to guide the blind.
57) And by the blind I mean to say
Not those unable to see the day.
58) The real blind in this context
Are those who see with closed heart.
59) There is indeed in every place
Plenty of Micks, plenty of Mays,
60) But God be praised that there is God
Who can make even what they make odd.
61) Believe in God and in your work,
And what remains isn’t your work.
62) If it is written that you succeed,
No Mick, no May say “nay!” indeed.
