The Metropark Ranger's Ode
by Kevin Schroeder

Oh, the life of a ranger, a curious mix,
Of wildlife, picnics, and daring quick-fix!

Huntsman of forest floor
Precocious keenly score

Articulating each leaf.
Talking to the river, who gossips downstream.

Tree melodies that naught can contain,
A meadow of the moonlit firefly reign!

Oppresive heat in languid, summer rooms,
And outside the windows, breezy blooms;
Myriad azure days of their dreamy perfume,
Make for the fragrant nights-an heirloom!
