These are poems about shadows, poems about darkness, poems about shades in the form of ghosts and spirits...
Shadows
by Michael R. Burch
Alone again as evening falls,
I join gaunt shadows and we crawl
up and down my room's dark walls.
......
As a kid, I did not understand what boundaries were.
Personal space was a foreign concept,
my desire for closeness my primary goal.
Why wouldn't we hold our loved ones close?
Express our love and affection,
all disguised as my need for attention.
Along the way, my shadow kept score
of every intrusion, every violation,
every fucked up situation that had me screaming
Malory, fight back. Don't disappear.
......
Light at my back, a million stars
Tilt of the neck.. a tangle of scars
I see my shadow, my shadow against the wall
A million miles tall
