The Tom-Cat

At midnight in the alley
A Tom-cat comes to wail,
And he chants the hate of a million years
As he swings his snaky tail.
Malevolent, bony, brindled
Tiger and devil and bard,
His eyes are coals from the middle of Hell
And his heart is black and hard.

Watching all my friends fade.
The shadows crawling slowly
Take everything away.
You held your hand out to me
Said"Take my hand, trust me."
But when I went to reach for you,
I found I couldn't see-

dear diary . i am turning twenty . there is nothing that i want , but to go back home .
to the village i grew up in , playing with friends , socks pasted with dirty sand . i am
not in despair , i spend my time thrifting clothes , jewelry that fits the color of my skin ,
footprints that i follow as i walk outside . i am full of sliver , tattooed on my skin , left
arm filled with bruise . i feel bad as i look at myself — how i ended up looking like a fool .
cigarettes tasting good as it never did like before , cherry wine ; i swallow it , like a glass
of water that i consume when i was seven . i see, an orange cat in the wild . i want to be
free just like it . running , feeling the breeze , sun being paired with my pale skin . i do not
know what to do . i do not want to turn twenty . i am scared . take me back to being a kid ,
simply enjoying the life that i never knew i had of me .

There's a monster outside my door,
So I must try to sleep.
Because sometimes,
Just sometimes,
The monster will pass by.
But most times,
Oh,most times,
The monster looks me in the eye
And Whispers "Wake."
When I am alone

When I close my eyes I finally have everything
beauty to comfort me
hugs to warm me
love to convince me
but only as long as my eyes are closed
so I stay with my eyes closed, pretending to be warm
with my eyes closed, I miss everything, life as it happens
but I don't want to open them
to awake back to my cold lonely bed
so I stay in my cold lonely head
