Some haunt me pleasantly,
Using the grains of dewy silence that speak loudly
Within the long, grey halls of history.
I recline on such images with smiles I borrow from
The penetralia of my soul and skin.
Behind them come lean trees denuded by the swift
Gales of re-greened winters that celebrated
Friendliness in the course of wondrous seasons.
I peer deeply at them, genuflecting to Time
For its abundance of grace and reflections.

My Landlady
by Nkwachukwu Ogbuagu

Among a stone-wreathed, sun-fried declivity
On earth’s raised stomach, a shack. Common
With the nervousness of heat, such shack-up

School hours brought me to such beginnings,
Such introductions, transient and loosely
Translated into vulgar languages aired by
A hairless harum scarum – MY LANDLADY!

Careless Moments
by Nkwachukwu Ogbuagu

I should have grinned when morning came
Atop posts of gaping day, with lunatics
Humming dirges of a broken world.

Pareidolia
by Nkwachukwu Ogbuagu

It was all about a grim,
Foggy, smoggy, old Thursday night
In Hithergreen,
London’s belching south,
Below Europe’s icy, dark trees and
In the silence of grieving mornings . . .
Bulbous clouds bleeding with strained oomph
Would stir the ingravescence of patented ills.
The trains always come railing!
Railing loud and silly

Reflections
by Nkwachukwu Ogbuagu

Rains splatter on the silence of night
When the holy seas bend their head in sleep.
I recline on the stillness of a bright moon,
Shining forth into the head of my bed.
Her body is pumiced and oiled by the hands
Of caring night spirits that walk the length of
A gentle September.
Darkness deepens at the yawning of the earth
When it thirsts for rain – that wondrous element
Known for its wetness and liquidness.
