To My Nurse

Compassion, some say, begins in the eyes
That unceasingly see what needs to be done.
Mercy is moved by the cries of despair
That echo and linger in listening ears.
Lips speak words that console and encourage,
Offering solace for tears and comforting fears,
Showing through care that good can be won.
Each part of the body that moves, sees, or hears
Connects to the heart whose beat comes from God,
And the good that we do, the hurt we embrace,
