We sat at the lake and talked of Beginnings
Difficult to concentrate - with your head thrown back
the sun glistening
on your caramel skin
head to pink-socked toes

You talked of how beginnings always end
Fits of complacency and contempt
Meaning settled on me like thick honey
Wanted to say we were an exception

I dial numbers at random just to find a voice that will listen, but my number has been carefully etched in your mind. you let me push you everyday, but the buttons on your phone seem to be fading faster by the minute. i am a conquest to you now, and youre clawing desperately, hoping you'll get a glimpse of the world through my eyes. but you may not like it once youre there. you spent all night painting a portrait of who you want me to be, and molded my words into what you wish they were. the velcro connected your heart to your sleeve is very slowly peeling apart, but for now youre consumed with infatuation. im sorry for making you laugh, and leading you to believe the smile never fades in my world.
