An Hourglass and Sand
by Tammy Darby

Why are the traits of creativity and insanity
An hourglass and sand
Is it an inherited genetic defect?
Or a wonderment of man
An anomaly of nature
A chemical imbalance in the Ribonucleic acid
A minuscule knot in the DNA strands

Many minds revered and unknown don the genius crown
The emotive disturbing creations of Goya’s dark-stained hands

Vanishing stars and Endless nights
by Tammy Darby

It is common knowledge amongst those of ink and pen
There are many that flee from the light
Those who yearn with all their being for endless nights
As shimmering stars forever fade from the sky

The silent ones who thrive and bloom in the cold darkness
Devoid of sound and beyond human sight
Kindred souls writhing in tempestuous maniacal rhyme
Boldly defiant of normalities laws, realities, boundaries, and time.

Fairies and Pixies
by Tammy Darby

Fairies are not composed of all beauty and ethereal gossamer wings
That live in dark hidden glens and sing bewitching songs
It is whispered by those brave enough to roam mythical forests
You can often hear fluttering sounds
and chanting until the sunrise, bright and gold

I was said by the Gervase of Tilbury
They first resided in England its territory being large
Flew across the channel and settled quite nicely in Killarney
Upon hearing the legends of the splendid Irish lands

One day America you must open your eyes
by Tammy Darby

And acknowledge the responsibility for starving children’s cries.
For the blood red and stagnant that flows through the streets
For the deaths of struggling farmers and poor families in distant lands
And those you will never meet.
The song of suffering is your composition.

One day America
You must speak the truth.
That we have left the bones of other humans in the ground.
Because their lives provided no political or monetary advantage

Galactic Traveler
by Tammy Darby

I cautiously entered the infamous portal of time
On my way in
Ignoring cosmic law
Misaligned planets
Into a crooked line

Emboldened plucked shining meteorites from over my head
Examining them closely before tossing them like sand
Tones of god yellow, twilight green, space blue, and sunspot red
Cavorted with comets aflame across infinite star-sprinkled skies

Death
by Tammy Darby

Silent and unseen I watched her stop eating and sleeping, broken, she wasted away while her very being crumbled with despair and loss. She became gaunt, almost skeletal, withdrawn, shutting out the world. Lost in a maze of confusion, trapped between loyalty and betrayal, after all he had done, she still loved him. He was neither honorable or worthy of her devotion.

Pitying her and on her behalf I filled his dreams with sobs and cries of suffering, while sprinkling his soul with the light touch of paranoia, and cursed his heart. I called upon him in the darkest hours of the night, as years turned into months, months into days, and minutes became seconds.

The time came at last when I called upon him and trembling in fear, almost meekly he asked my name.
Emotionless and unmoved by the look of dawning recognition on his face I remained in the shadows of his mind said nothing, and stared at him without uttering a sound. His voice tainted with panic and hope for a reprieve, once again asked me, ‘what is your name?
I smiled and in my softest voice whispered in his ear,
'Death.'

Aphrodite
by Tammy Darby

It is said in the ancient text she was conceived in murder
When the Titan Cronus drew his father Uranus’s blood, dead, he forever be
The wife of a dark Vulcan Hephaestus, mother to the cherub of love
Legends say she rose from Poseidon’s emerald seas.
From salty heather foam in the waters of Pathos,
That lap the white shores of the isle of Cyprus did she rise
Though Homer on this fact would disagree

Striking jealousy in the hearts of the haughty gods
And filling Adonis eyes according to Greek lore

God of the Winds
by Tammy Darby

The lord of legends blew through the lands unshackled
With his fierce breath transform bark brown into white
From the tips of trembling branches to rough trunks of the trees.
Tall mountains and forests covered in powdered dust
Across the dipping valleys showered with pale moonlight

Far above the sleeping fern green earth reigns the royal sky
Wearing a cape of turquoise and forget me not blue
The palette of frosts artistry
Air upon the ice sketched fresh patterns each night
