Even the Winds and Sea

What manner of bark these that engine so ineffectively,
hesitant, confused, tossed by the powerful sea?
What manner of nature it that storms so omnipotently,
unaware, unrestrained, acting as if on a another plane?

What distance between

And what manner of man he who rises so indifferently
as the wooden hands rouse him to the dire certainty:
a gentle rebuke, the sudden cease,

When I consider Prometheus partially unbound,
Limb free of an earthy alchemy:

Nymphs that reel in waves and sand
A cat poised in boxed uncertainty
Strands so woven as to eclipse even the Fates’
(the sons had only to best the fathers for Tiresias to speak)

What then with both hands free?
