Popular Domestic abuse Poems
The home I grew up in

You missed it when you walked in,
The tiles in the bathroom that looked like an ogre,
That had captured my imagination as a child.
You missed that the bottom stair was harder,
The leak in the upstairs bathroom that was neglected and left to the care of a bowl,
Emptied weekly as if this chore was less than fixing it.

You missed the dent in the paint from the arguments,
Doors slammed haphazardly into walls,
The stain on the carpet from way back when,

he tells her that he's sorry and he didn't meant to scream
he loves her so damn much, he says, it made him act extreme
he tells her that shes pretty and he's such a lucky guy
he pretends he doesn't see the bruise now forming on her eye
he tells her that he's sorry but she shouldn't make him mad
he tells her to stop crying, there's no reason to be sad
he takes off out the door to buy her a new treat
that's one more box of chocolate that she will never eat
she stares in the mirror and enters the zone
her face loses meaning, just skin across bone
