Slayers!!
by Joycelyn Eshun

Myths and speculations of beauty today
Church girls and boys considered out of date
If I am average looking then I fit the description of 'church girl'.
Clothed in rags then my place is the temple.
But unlike our slay queens we slay with purpose
We break down territories and command strongholds.
We present this world a new definition of slayers
Beauty with prayer
Fashion with purpose
We leaving our marks everywhere we go

15. Baptism Sentiment By The Confined
by Kea Campbell

It comes in waves, yet all waves stay.
No currents in this tub, her worries astray.
Swimming in thoughts and welcoming prayers.
Sitting chest-high, surrounded by raisers.
Eternality fine-printed, and she signed His waiver.
She grants her last breath, and submits to her Savior.

Plunged for five seconds, but too short and partitioned.
Immersed a bit longer, ‘cause six’s too wicked.
Seven is His, and now she’s forgiven.

At the Golden Dawn of Understanding
by Evelyn Judy Buehler

It was late in gorgeous springtime, and I was teaching my class,
A lesson in African history, and the events of time's hourglass.

My fourth graders were very attentive, as I recounted the glory,
Of tales such as Mansa Musa's, maybe the richest man in history!

Sultan of Mali was Mansa Musa, during the far off Middle Ages,
The world's largest gold producers maybe, say the history sages.

When Mali consisted of 400 cities, he was a patron of the arts.

23. My Psalm
by Kea Campbell

Oh Lord, oh sun; save me with drought.

The enemy is larger than man, but hope is stronger than the winds.
We are pursuers by the Word, and perpetuated without it.
We are consumers by the Word, and vendors without it.
We are two or more by the Word, and isolated without it.

Oh God, oh giver; buy us before we sell.

You are the baker, and we are your patrons.

Oh God
by Joseph Ogbonna

God almighty of generations all,
who did witness great empires rise and fall.
We gladly wait for thy eternal reign,
when saints martyred will beam with smiles unfeigned.

God immortal of centuries ageless,
whose dexterity carved our global ball.
When will thy saints the new earth inherit?
where conduct is guided by thy spirit.

94. As Thyself
by Kea Campbell

As Thyself
The grass is getting greener, incomparable on either side.
Observe—they're different shades, nonetheless a beautiful palette to the naked eye.
Trees, still leafless, and allergy season has yet to arrive.
If I could, I'd wait outside, watching springtime breathe everything back to life.

We don't have to talk politics, and I've seen conflicting values break friendships.
We don't have to talk at all; just sit here with me in the quiet.
If you'd like to play some tunes, you can throw on the playlist we made for me and you.
Oh how I love comfortable silence, and how I miss lakeside sunset views for two.

57. Love Is War
by Kea Campbell

A running mind and a sprinting love;
Always wondering "Am I too much for everyone, yet not enough to be your only one?"

My thoughts weigh down my stomach and I keep sinking to the floor, but when I realized I was drowning,
I grew too weak to swim to His courts.

Although He gifted me life and I am selfless enough to give anyone mine,
When He pours His love into me endlessly, my heart leaks petrol, like channeling methane into the sea.

I float in your presence and suffocate in our togetherness, because my love for you is like an ocean of gasoline,

53. Corinthians
by Kea Campbell

Peace acquaints companionship, and you might not see it now,
But the Devil befriends seclusion where no witnesses are found.
Some battles are mental, and even those leave visible scars.
So, as you go about your days, please offer your whole heart.

Hate is a criminal and casualties are evidence,
And, although 'be kind' is cliché, it furnishes joy and declares reverence.
You might find yourself asking what differently you could have done.
And to that, I would say, “Do everything in love.”

39. A Day In His Courts
by Kea Campbell

Distractions feel good, that's why they're distracting.
When are you going to trade the temporary for the everlasting?

I dwell on mountain tops, but I come from rock bottom.
I've been cut and I've been broken with plans for no tomorrow.

While I was weeping in my closet, I heard a voice in my head.
It didn't come from this world, nor did it deduce rightful dread.

While I was weeping in my closet, I heard a voice from within.

35. More Of Him
by Kea Campbell

I no longer pray for my bad habits to be cut free,
Instead, I pray that His love claims victory.
I can try to love the world just as much as I love Him,
But if the world wins me, he loses a fruitful fig tree.

I no longer pray for compensation in haste,
Instead, I pray for His unwavering grace.
Favors are no longer kind or free,
In this world, everyone is all about "me".
Yet, in my attempts to offer loyal consonance,
