Brisbane Sonnet (Tell Me of Your Anger in Whispers)

Should you be moved to speak in anger dear
I ask that first you test your words alone.
If meaning's very clear, then is it fair?
Unleashed, harsh words will travel like a spear,
If anger stems from blunder of my own
You know I'll be contrite and seek repair.
Why not delay, so anger can abate?
Is it essential now that blame be found?
Attack invokes defense without much thought.
There's nothing risked delaying words that grate.

She said she would leave the light on outside
Just in case he decided to turn back
And it was a good thing she did; he did
He parked his ride, climbed the porch, snuck inside
Helped himself to a little midnight snack
Gazed in wonder at his- their- sleeping kid
"I found your light," he whispered in her ear
"And that boy, he looks like us"- she slept on
He climbed in bed as he was: found, not lost
And drank her in like she would disappear

Brisbane Sonnet (Flood Danger)

Today's another king tide, and we'll soon find out
If the last few days rain, will cause floods again.
The streets are clean, and all the mud removed,
The weather proves the ending of the drought,
As mother nature treats us with so much distain,
And once again her might is easily proved.
The eleventh hour has passed, we ease our breath.
As I walk towards the river I see her full.
There is no flood, yet there is still anger there
But will not cause another untimely death.
