sixteen

sweet, sixteen is so
sweet as candy, unforgiving as the sour aftertaste
the parties and the gifts
that feeling of paradise
that comes with the simple number
more mature than the year before
yet lacking the responsibility of the adultness you crave
i’ve reached this ripe age
although i feel as though my time as come and gone
my friends
