I've been searching for God in America
And I've discovered some places he hides.
I found him hiding inside an Aids victim
And staring out of the eyes of a child.
I discovered him over at Arlington
When he put flowers on an unknown grave.
And I picked him out in the inner city
Behind the cart of an old bag lady.
Regretfully, I won't find all the places
Where he continues to hole up and hide.
If I'm lucky, I'll find him in some of them
But I'll try looking beyond his disguise.
