It is not easy to meditate
in the heavy noise of day;
But when night closes in,
confusing sounds fade away.
Thoughts so vague all through the light,
come to focus around midnight.
That's when I think more calmly,
And meditate upon my thoughts;
That's when I see more clearly
the lessons life has taught;
That's when I realize wearily
that sometimes my work was all for naught;
That's when I face the truth and ask,
"Have I missed the goal for which I sought?"
And then I think more comfortingly
of the many blessings life has brought;
Of the gifts to man by His hands wrought.
