I cried myself to sleep last night
at songs come from my past.
They come to me to bring me joy,
But left me sore at last.
I remember the times I had,
and summers filled with zest,
and now, for me, there is no more,
But knowledge to the test.
I feel as if I've missed a part
So crucial to my life.
The only thing that is left for me,
to marry and have a wife.
I think about the child I was,
and know I won't again,
Climb a tree, or play with friends,
Without the threat of rain.
