Bear Cubs in the Autumn Lake

The water is cold but her fur is warm,

A cozy blanket I nuzzle in with my sister and brother.

As we watch the fireflies begin to swarm,

Safe from danger, on the back of our mother.

The firefly's glow like thousands of stars,

The lake melts to the sky a painting of paradise.

But we can't look back as we are travelling far.

Our fate at the hands of the ones who roll dice.

The scenery ahead, beautiful and untouched,

But behind us is a masterpiece of misery.

The question of how long it will remain is unjust.

But for now, the water is still, cold, and glittery.

Us cubs are warm, fed and guarded. Although our mother frozen,

For now the leaves remain untouched and glowing bittersweet golden.
