Daydreams

Sometimes I dawdle, sometimes I doodle,
And sometimes I even am using my noodle.
It all quite depends on what is before me,
But how easy it is to distract or to bore me.

I know I should listen and pay close attention
And I do try my best with the best of intention.
But sometimes my thoughts so swirl in my head
I completely neglect what I hear or is said.

There may come a time when my habits betray me,
When I need to bear down and let life engage me.
But what I might miss has long passed me by
And trouble or sorrow shall taunt me to try.

I know I’ve got duties on which much depends
And I will get to them, but dreams are my friends.
They nourish my spirit when life is a bore.
Being adult, I’m afraid, is a bit of a chore.
